As this was my first experience in shipping a car, I had done some research and read reviews on many companies. Amerifreight most consistently had good ratings and was on every list of car shipping brokers. However, my experience with the company was poor from the get go.
First, I had a difficult time even talking to a shipping specialist. Yes, every time you call you talk to a real person, but then that person forwards you to a "shipping specialist" that results in waiting on hold for 15 minutes. Eventually, I would just hang up and call back only to leave 2 messages that were unreturned.
Once I finally got through to a specialist, I explained my complicated shipping situation to the broker and he explained the process. I decided to go ahead with Amerifreight. My understanding was that the job would be posted and carriers would place bids. And once bids were in, I would be the one with the final say. However, I was wrong.
However, at 4PM EST on a Wednesday, I receive an email stating a carrier had been found and that I needed to call back ASAP. Well, calling at 4:30PM EST, I was unable to reach my broker. Instead, I receive a call back from his associate stating that this carrier wants to pick up the car the following day. As I was not the person dropping the car off, I told his associate that this was not possible with less than 24 hours notice, and asked if this carrier could be passed upon. The associate abruptly told me "no" with no consideration for the complication of such short notice. Then I was told that I must use this carrier as they negotiated for this price and that was final.
Throughout the process, I felt that the communication as to all the steps were not clear. In addition to feeling forced to accept the first bid, I felt that the entire car pickup and drop off logistics were not clearly communicated to me. From the car needing to be picked up with less than 24 hours notice to the car arriving 4 days early, I felt that this whole process could have been more smooth with more communication between myself, broker, and carrier.
