I spent a fair amount of time researching companies to ship my car from Boston to Southern California. I went with AmeriFreight due to its high ratings on the Better Business Bureau website. I was very nervous about shipping my car cross country so I did my research and dialed several companies in order to ask questions about methods and procedures.
I was connected with Josh at AmeriFreight and he did an excellent job explaining to me the details of the transport and he answered my questions timely and carefully, I felt confident that this was the right company to go with, even though it was slightly more expensive than other companies.
I chose to go with a 1-2 day pick up window and was told I was going to be given 24 hours notice on when and where my car would be picked up. I tried calling Josh's direct line several times over the course of the weekend (they are open on Saturdays) to get a heads up on when my car would be picked up, but I got nothing but radio silence.
On the estimated day of my pick up, I had still heard nothing, so I called up Josh again who seemed unaware that their was no communication from the actual transport company (keep in mind that AmeriFreight is a broker!) After several phone calls back and forth, I was told my car would be picked up in AN HOUR! I was at work at the time and had to do some serious negotiating with the truck driver and my boss to make this pick up happen, it worked out, but was VERY stressful. It was not until 4 hours after my car was picked up until I got a phone call again from AmeriFreight...this time it was them asking me about the status of my pickup.....very concerning as I felt that they should be 100% aware of the status and location of my car. I expressed my concerns to Josh, and he apologized and assured me he would give me daily status updates on the location of my car, up until delivery day....this did not happen.
Eventually, my car arrived in Southern California on the 10th day, when it was supposed to arrive. No damage and all the items I had in my car were safely intact. Overall, I feel that my situation is one that is very familiar within this industry and unfortunately cannot be avoided, car shipping just seems to be hit or miss. I would ultimately recommend this company, but only as I don't think it gets much better than this elsewhere.
