The broker explained that the lowest cost bid that I relied on to choose his company versus others was not a firm price, but rather a bid he would put out to trucking companies to see if any would agree to ship my car for that price. He explained that it would be posted for 24-72 hours, and if no takers he would have to submit a higher bid to get a taker. This clued me in immediately that I would surely be paying a higher cost, as these companies surely know what they are doing. Regardless, I accepted the plan. On the second day I was notified that three companies had bid for my move, but all three submitted higher cost counter-bids rather than accepting the offered price. I was not told that this was even an option, as 72-hours had not yet elapsed since the initial bid. I accepted the middle cost counter-offer because they indicated the earliest pickup and delivery dates. Later that day I got a call from the trucking company rep who told me that pickup would be one day later than the date I had agreed to in accepting the offer. Then, on the new expected delivery day I got a call from the truckers themselves saying pickup would be one more day later. So total two days late. The pickup was uneventful, the truck was full and I was told four days until delivery, and that they would call my daughter the day before delivery to arrange the drop off. On the fourth day they called her and told her they would arrive the following day around dinner time. The next day they called her in the morning and told her they would be dropping the car off just after lunchtime. My daughter could not accommodate this as she was working that day. The truckers put pressure on her to find a way, saying they didn't want to wait for her. I had to advise her to stand up for her rights and hold them to the later time they had told her. They eventually agreed and the car was delivered, but was filthy dirty after the long cross-country trip (not unexpected). Overall the experience was satisfactory but far from perfect.
