Our daughter is a U.S. Marine stationed in North Carolina. We live in Illinois and driving the car from Illinois to North Carolina during this time period was not an option. We needed to ship the car to her and I had no idea where to begin. I checked online and found a couple of shippers whom I contacted directly and I was not impressed with what I heard. One of the shippers had a very high pressure "gotta do it now" sales pitch.
I found an article on the web which suggested I locate a reputable "Auto-Transport Broker". The name AmeriFreight came up through searches with good reviews by individuals and the business also had a good rating from the BBB. Simply put: you list your car with a reputable auto-broker and they help you find a shipper.
I contacted AmeriFreight and I soon became introduced to my particular agent, Ben Payne. He made contact with me by telephone and email. He took the time to explain "everything" to me -- on how shipping a car worked. He patiently answered my many questions and he provided me with step by step directions and walked me through the process. Once I completed the application and returned it to him (via email) he contacted me and explained what would happen next.A few days later he called and sent me and email that they located a shipper and we agreed to accept the price. I contacted the shipper per the instructions provided by Ben.The driver contacted me about 24 hours before the pick-up and we set up a pick-up place and time. The driver was very easy to work with and everything went well with the pickup. The driver went over delivery information and checked my daughter's contact info and delivery address.Twenty four hours before delivery she contacted the driver and they confirmed the delivery time and place.
Everything went as Ben described it. There were no surprises. Ben checked with me the same day the car was picked up to see how things went; and he contacted me either the day or a day after the car was delivered to our Marine.
We are very pleased on how smoothly everything went. Ben Payne and AmeriFreight certainly lived up to "our expectations". Should we every need to ship a car again we will contact AmeriFreight -- and hopefully Ben Payne will still be around - unless they have made him CFO by then.
