Good company, sometimes hard to reach on phone

I had heard good things from two friends who used Amerifreight, and they were by far the cheapest option for shipping my car cross country (California to New Jersey = $855, the next best uote I got was $900).

I got a quote easily online, and when I clicked to confirm the quote, I received an email from Jonathan asking me to complete the shipping pickup/destination information and the deposit info. As one of the options was to pay the deposit in cash, I circled that option and faxed it back so as not to have to fax a credit card number over a non-secure line. Upon sending back the fax, I did not get a confirmation from Amerifreight that the order had been received, so I sent Jonathan an email that day, followed by one two days later. I received no response to those emails. I also put in 3 phone calls over 4 days, both to the main phone number and to Jonathan, and got his voicemail every time. I left a number I could be reached at, but never received a call back. Finally, my boyfriend called from a different phone number, and immediately reached someone, who said the order had been received, and they were working on my request. However, the next day, I got a call from Amy, who said they could not put through my request unless I paid the deposit with a credit card over the phone. I asked why the cash option was on the form, and why no one had called me in the four days earlier to tell me this, or told my boyfriend this over the phone. Despite this, I paid the deposit with a credit card, and only then did Amerifreight start working on my car transport.

After 5 days, no one had taken the bid to pick up my car, so as promised, Amerifreight added $50 to encourage more shippers to bid. The very next day, Amy called me to let me know that my car would be picked up, and everything was smooth sailing from then. I received the car 11 days after pick up (a little bit after the 7-10 days they had quoted me), but given the weather in the region, I can't blame Amerifreight or the shipping company, K-1 for that. I had heard from both my friends that their cars arrived a little bit dirty, but because of the rain, my car was squeaky clean, and in perfect condition. From the date I sent in the original confirmation (February 23) to the time I got my car (March 15) was 20 days, a bit longer than I thought it would take, but had the misunderstanding about mandatory credit card deposit payment not occurred, the time would have been about 15 days shorter, which is what I was expecting. Overall, I found the service to be very good, and competitively priced, but would have liked it had someone been more responsive to my calls and emails.
