Less than honest online quote

Overall Angels Moving Autos did an excellent job. The picked it up with ample notice and took us through it step by step. The truck driver was polite and competent. My only quibble concerns a disparity between the online quote, $700, and the actual cost, $850.

I solicited quotes from about 30 companies online. Angels replied promptly with a quote of $700. That put it roughly mid-way between the highest ($1,000+) and lowest ($400) quotes Between the cost and the large number of people who gave it positive reviews, I was impressed.

When I first called Angels, the dispatcher changed the online quote from $700 to $825. Because I wanted to pay with a credit card, I had to pay an additional $25 fee. She said the increased quote was due to the season, i.e., the crush of people going south for the winter. This, however, only a day or two after the online quote. I think that's tantamount to a bait-and-switch tactic, a less than honest approach. I must have been feeling rich because I accepted the added costs even though the change angered me.

For someone on a tight budget, the increase could prove unacceptable. Any company these days that doesn't accept credit card payments without an additional charge seems to me out of touch with how good business works.

Despite the price and payment issues, every contact I had was positive. They delivered the car in good condition, on time, polite to our friends who received it in Florida. I would use them again but I wouldn't trust the online quote.
