On November 29th we were contacted by Cristina and Mathew to transport their car. As stated we normally do scheduling 7-10 days in advance. Unfortunately, right around that time, due to severe weather up in the Northwest (recall the tragedy on Mt. Hood, OR), many truck drivers opted to run different routes, staying clear of Oregon and Washington State.
The only drivers running to that area were requesting more money, which I explained to the couple.
We have never experienced this situation before, and I offered to refund the full deposit if they wanted to opt out. I said we cannot count on the severe weather ending until the Spring, not that we would be unable to move the car until Spring. We are always very contactable and accessible. Mathew conferred with his wife and said they would be willing to pay the difference based upon the situation.
We promptly contracted a driver willing to run the route. He loaded the car on December 15th, and it arrived in Roseburg on December 20th; so the car was delivered exactly 3 weeks from the day we sent them the original contract (which incidentally, they never signed and returned).
We ended up sending the lion’s share of our commission to the driver, keeping only a small portion to cover the many hours of labor time, along with numerous long distance phone calls spent trying to get the vehicle moved.
