had used this company over a year ago with no problems whatsoever, so when the need arrived to ship another auto on 2/26/08, in spite of the bad online reviews this company got in the meantime, I went ahead against my better judgment and used them again. Completely different!!! Once they received the $100.00 deposit up front. I also got a quick callback, that for $75 more dollars than agreed upon, they could pick up right away. I politely declined and asked when I should expect a pickup at the agreed upon price, and was given the , uh I don't know, we have to put it back on the board speech. Not hearing from them for several days, I called back asking the same question, and was told that my trucker had been dispatched that day, and I asked when was I to have been notified, in order to have someone there with keys. They stated they notified by email, (which I received the following afternoon) bottomline, unable to coordinate with that trucker. No pickup, finally after another week of not hearing from Caviness, I on my own went online, filled out a quote, and within 1 hr, I began to receive call after call from companies with comparable quotes, choose one and had my car picked up and on it's way the next day!!! In the meantime, still nothing, no word from Caviness. After receiving my car, as promised by a reputable trucking company, and my car safely at it's destination. I requested my deposit back, and got their famous " we've been in the trucking business 47 years" broken record spiel. I had to go through my credit card company and fight to ge my deposit back, of which I only received half, because Caviness' contract states it will only refund 50% of deposit and only within 72hours. And they get around that by not contacting you until after the 72 hours. Not alot of money lost, but a big lesson learned, who not to use and never pay until automobile is picked up.
They are also dishonest stating they contacted me on the 15th or 16th of Mar to dispatch a truck but I declined because I would be out of town. This they put in their rebuttal to my credit card company. A straight out lie!!! I never heard from them, and by then my car had already been picked up AND delivered to me by the other trucking company that I had contacted.. My last contact with Caviness was when I called them on the 19Mar requesting a refund for lack of service promised. BEING IN BUSINESS 47 YEARS, DOESNT GUARANTEE ANYTHING. Except learning the ways to get around being held accountable when you don't come through as promised.
By the way my company that DID deliver, didn't require an upfront deposit, you only paid ONCE your car was picked up. Buyer beware !!!
