Phil at Coastal Auto and the freight company he found were fantastic. It all started when Phil emailed and called me immediately after I lobbed in my request for a quote into the shipping-industry-broker-bidding machine ether. He was very patient in explaining to me how the shipping industry worked. This was helpful, as I was skeptical at first.
After Phil and I agreed to work on finding a shipping company together, he went off to find me a bid. The bid I was hoping to get my car out for was unfortunately too low given weather / timing / car color* etc. and as a result, no truckers nibbled at the bid. We decided to up the ante a bit by throwing in another 50 bucks. We ended up getting some interest and we came to an agreement with a trucking company, FreightPort.
Both Phil and the guys at FreightPort were great. Phil was honest and always available to discuss finding a truck. FreightPort then got my car out here (NY to CA) in 2.5 days. 2.5 days! In January! I'm not even sure if that's actually possible. But they did it. And not only did they do it, but they rearranged their travel so as to meet me in Truckee instead of SF so that I could stay in Tahoe and catch another day of powder.
All in all, a highly positive experience. Thanks to everyone involved.
*Kidding on the car color part.
