On the plus side, the car arrived in perfect condition and the representative I dealt with at DIY was helpful, informative, and I'm sure he was doing his level best to get me what I needed. My request was apparently unusual for this industry. I needed a pickup in a 4-hour window (due to airline flight schedules in and out of the pickup area), but it could be any day of the week as long as I had 6 hours notice. After an 11-day delay, DIY found a transport company that told DIY they could accommodate that schedule. That was American Car Transportation - CA only. That's where things went downhill. The time window was noon to 4:00P.M. Having not heard from the driver by 2:00, I called him and got a "voice mail full" message. He did call back fairly quickly and told me he was not going to make the window. This wasn't what I wanted to hear after paying for a flight and rental car to be there for the transfer. It turned out he missed the window by 4 1/2 hours, getting there around 8:30. Fortunately, I found a trustworthy local person to handle the loading of my car. This was on a Friday. I talked to the driver by phone that night and he indicated the drop off would be early Monday. That was fine -- except that "early" ended up being 4:30 P.M., with a couple of calls in which the driver gave me more inaccurate estimates of his arrival. In consideration for the delays and inconvenience, the driver did accept a small discount in his payment, which basically covered the cost of the nice gift basket I sent to the helpful soul who took care of loading the vehicle at its source.
