Before calling enlisting Dash to move my car, I researched several other companies, and I called and asked Dash about their insurance, they told me that they had the most experienced drivers in the business, and that they were insured up to ten thousand dollars.
After picking up the vehicle in Florida, some unknown woman called me at 12:30 AM to inform me that the driver told her to call me and tell me that delivery HAD to happen at 6AM that morning. It was previously agreed to pick it up at noon. At 6 AM in December in the Pacific Nortwest, it's dark, and often raining, and the place that the driver told me to go to in order to pick up the vehicle was an unlit field by the highway just outside of Blaine, WA.
The reason for this was because he had damaged the car - torn off the roof racks, antenna, scraped and dented the roof and rear bumper. I'm sure he hoped that it would be so dark that I wouldn't see the damage. He disposed of the broken parts, the racks and antenna, and never mentioned or indicated that he had damaged the vehicle at all. I had to drive it away to a lighed parking lot, inspect it, and drive it back to where he was getting ready to leave. When confronted, he asked if I had pictures of the vehicle before it was shipped, and luckily I had, then he still wouldn't sign the damage that I indicated on the Bill of Lading, until I insisted that I was not going to get out of his way until he did.
I returned home, and was given the runaround for more than a year - faxing and refaxing the bill of lading, talking to various employees and then the owner - all the time being told that that the company was insured and it would all be fine. 14 months later, I was directed to the mover's insurance people, (Casual Insurance) and after several MORE months of phone tag with them, they offered to give me half of the damage estimate, and said that I would have to go after Dash for the other half! Fearing that I wouldn't receive anything at all, I took that portion of the money owed.
That was in 2006, it's 2009, and the matter is still unresolved. I've simplified the details to exclude the hours on the phone, the many empty promises by the company and the OWNER of the company ; ("the check is in the mail" - then when I call back two weeks later after it doesn't arrive: "What was your address again?" I tell them again, and two weeks later no check. I call back, I'm referred to yet another employee, etc, etc.) intended, I'm sure to wear me down and save them a couple of thousand dollars.
What I've learned from this is that just because a company can make all sorts of claims on their website, and trump up a few (possibly fake) positive reviews, doesn't mean that they're competant and professional. I strongly recommend avoiding Dash Auto.
