This is my first experience with shipping a vehicle. I encourage all customers to educate themselves on how this process works before selecting a shipping company, there are several articles online that explain the process. My experience has proven that this company is unable to guide you through the process with any integrity. The saga with DFT began on 03-09-2012 when I signed a shipping contract. The request was for a 2009 Tacoma to be shipped from ME to HI for a price of $2,225. I was told by another broker that it would be impossible to ship the vehicle for that price, it's to cheap. I now understand why that is true. It is my belief that DFT lured me in with this price only to request more, as they did. It may be true that the higher price they eventually requested is the "going rate", but the fact of the matter is, that's not what I was quoted. I cancelled the request on 04-03-2012 because they failed to ship my truck.
In all fairness, I now understand that this is a difficult request based on how the system works. However, in the beginning I trusted the information I was given by my salesman. He kindly explained that the truck would ship on 03-16-2012. When that date came and went I was repeatedly told it will be in a few days. I quickly learned that this was just a carrot dangling in front of me. Two weeks into the process I spoke with the Dispatch Manager, he actually was the first person to enlighten me on how shipping a vehicle works. I continued discussions with the Dispatch Manager and Salesman and found that they obviously didn't communicate with each other, because each one uncovered the others false promises.
On 04/02/2012 in an attempt to get the shipment started I asked DFT to allow the truckers to "name their price" and I would determine whether or not it was affordable. I discovered through another broker that the Dispatch Manager had stated that "the customer is desperate" on the national shipping board. I do not believe this suits my best interest as a customer in paying a reasonable amount for a service. As a result of their post, they allegedly found a trucker that would do the ME to CA route for $1800, bringing the new total to over $3,000. This is where I can give an example of the discrepancies between the Dispatch Manager and Salesman. The Salesman said the truck would leave tomorrow and would cost $1500, several minutes later the Dispatch Manager called and said it would be in 3 days and the absolute best price he could get me was $1800. Both guaranteed it would ship those days.
I even had the honor of being hung up on while speaking to the Dispatch Manager in a calm, rational voice explaining that I had been told by two separate companies that the pacific transport fee would be $200 cheaper then what DFT had quoted me. He said I was calling him a liar and that I should contact the pacific shipper myself. He called me after I cancelled the contract apologising, and explained they were the only company that could complete this order. You had almost 4 weeks and failed to deliver. Even after cancelling the request with the Dispatch Manager, Salesman, and stating in writing per the contract that I wanted to cancel, they continued to harass me by telephone and left the vehicle on the shipping board, thus greatly reducing my chances of having the truck picked up with my new broker. DFT finally removed the truck from the shipping board when my new broker emailed and requested it be removed or they will report them to the board. I would also like to mention that the harassing phone calls I received once I cancelled the order was the first time DFT contacted me in the entire 25 days. All other means of communication were made by me. I find this to be unacceptable customer service.
Bottom line, you can see that this post took some documenting and time to create. I would not waste my time on such a thing if I did not believe it was my duty to report such poor service to the public. I also chose to wait to make this review until I received my deposit back for fear that I would not receive it based on this review and there business practices, however as of this post, I have still not received my refund, 44 days later. There return policy states the refund could take up to 30 days. Please do not make the same mistake I did. There are far to many 5 star company's to work with. I also encourage you to read the positive reviews. I find them all very similar, as if they're written by the same person. Also, every negative review they claim they have never heard of this person. Side note - The truck shipped with my new broker within 10 days. The price to ship from ME to CA $1700, with the broker including $50 of their own money. DFT could not deliver! Do not be fooled by there convenient reply that I am a fake customer. I assure you, I unfortunately had to experience first hand the lack of integrity this business possesses.
