Nice people but missed their quote

I had a lot of problems trying to ship my Mazda MPV minivan from Taylors, SC, to Lynnwood WA, but would like to try to be fair and honest with my evaluation of Gold Star. I would like to start with the positives. Ellen is a very nice person and was very responsive in most cases. She was not hard to get in touch with, although she was a bit slow to return calls when she didn’t have positive news. She gave me a $25 discount off of her brokerage fees since they failed to live up to their time and cost quotes.
Now for the problems. I went with Gold Star because they had a 5-star rating and the price quote was $75 cheaper than any other company. She said she could do it for $925. I am not sure if this was a lowball quote to attract business or if she did not realize that a Mazda MPV is a minivan and quoted the price for a car. I agreed to go with them and signed the contract expecting my vehicle to be shipped on or before December 30 for $925. I waited for over a week and never heard anything. I assumed it was all taken care of. Finally I decided to call about 4 days before the vehicle was supposed to be shipped and was informed that they still did not have a truck for it. The next day I was told that they had a truck for me, but it was going to cost $1000 and the truck would come on Dec 29. She agreed to take $25 off of the broker fee and that brought it down to 975. On Weds, Dec 29, I called to find out the time of pick up and was told that the truck was in the shop and would not take my vehicle. I really needed the van to ship by the 30th so I would not have to rent a van in WA. They were not able to get it shipped. I called several times over the next week and was continually told that there were no trucks going out West and that they could not do anything. I really wanted to have it done before I flew to WA on the Jan 6. On Jan 5 it still wasn’t done so I asked if there was a better chance of getting it done from a bigger city like Charlotte, NC. Ellen said that would probably be better so I had to take the van on the 2 hr trip to Charlotte to leave it with my brother-in-law. Finally, right before I left for WA a truck was found that would leave on Jan 8th and the cost was now $1050. It was supposed to take 7 days, but ended up being 7 business days (10 days). Finally the van arrived on Jan 18. The whole process ended up being quite a chore and Gold Star was unable to deliver on time, money amount, or pick up location. They said that no other carrier would have been able to do it better and maybe that is true, but I have a feeling that if it had been posted higher earlier we would have had a better shot of making it out by the desired date. The people at this company are very nice, but I was very disappointed and inconvenienced by the whole process.

Dear Aaron I am very apologetic for any inconvenience you may have experienced with your transport as it is always my sincerest intention to accommodate my clients as much as possible Being a 5 star rated business is of the utmost importance to myself and my staff as we work in an industry riddled with fraud and deception I can only say that there were difficulties with this transport and I am very sorry that things did not go as smoothly as you had hoped We secured a carrier to pick up on Dec 29 as contracted for the amount quoted but the truck suffered a blown hydraulic pump and immediately had to be repaired These situations do happen and throw everybody off course but rather than let you down I worked tirelessly throughout the New Years holiday and two major winter storms to scramble to secure another carrier immediately The best carrier available was coming through Charlotte and was a few dollars more but could meet the criteria for pick up by Jan 8 and normal transport across country is always 7 to 10 days I am appreciative of the kind remarks towards myself and my company as we did our best during this hectic season I hope that I can again secure your business if ever you need it hopefully not during the winter Sincerely Ellen Kealey 919-410-7713
