Damaged Vehicle & Poor Driver Communication

I hired Gran Turismo Motorsports to ship my newly purchased classic car from CT to CA because they pride themselves on enclosed transporting. I was nervous about shipping a classic car cross country as I'd never done it before and for an old classic it definitely needed to be enclosed in hopes the car wouldn't incur any damage. Unfortunately, I wasn't so lucky. The car was picked up on time in CT but the driver never contacted me or returned my calls during transport so I called the main office to check if the delivery date was still as scheduled. I was told that my car was being delivered the next day (3 days early!) with less than 24 hour notice. Again, no communication from the driver and if I hadn't called the office myself I wouldn't have known it was being delivered 3 days early. I quickly had to change my work schedule to make certain I'd be home the next day to meet the driver.

When the driver unloaded the car, he told me it got damaged because the car bounced during transport and hit the rack of cars above it. In otherwords, the driver was negligent and didn't tie down my car for transport properly. I was really upset as the top was in perfect condition previously. The driver wasn't even very sympathetic and acted non-chalent about it. I had him take photos & acknowledge the damage on the bill of lading and I called Ken Gold immediately before the driver left to document it. Ken said they would take care of it.

I provided estimates for a new convertible top to Ken Gold. He said he would send me a check for the amount we agreed on to fix it and then I never received the check. As time ticked on I ended up filing a dispute against Gran Turismo Motorsports with my credit card company for the estimate amount. Once I told Ken I did that, he said the check was in the mail. To his credit, I did receive it but had he just followed through initially like he said he would I wouldn't have resorted to filing the dispute.

In conclusion, no driver communication during transport, less than 24 hour notice prior to a 3 day early delivery, damaged car in transport, and lack of follow up with the payment for the damage that occured during transport did not make for an overall positive experience with this transport carrier.

I know people have had great experiences with this company as I see in their reviews but for me I did not. I'm still scratching my head as to how a driver doesn't tie a car down properly for transport when enclosed transporting is supposed to be a "white glove service" since it costs a lot more. Also, not communicating during transport makes no sense in this day and age of technology. Lots of frustration on my end that I've had to deal with when the damage was easily preventable in the first place.

There are lots and lots of transport carriers out there, so do your homework, ask questions and choose very wisely!
