Initial contact was very late - got no response to several emails, eventually had to call several times before I even got through. Was initially quoted $1123, by their auto-quote, which was subsequently raised to $1298 in a later email, as their quote system doesn't seem to take into account that I needed a 5700 lb Suburban moved, not a 2500 lb Civic. The end price was about average compared to what I was quoted elsewhere.
I received no calls after I placed the order, and had to call them several times to find out what was going on. They evidently couldn't find anyone to haul it, and eventually advised me to add $50 to the transport to see if there were any bites at the higher price.
I still stuck with them due to several factors - their policy of "no deposit until it's picked up"; the fact that they were fairly close by, so that if I had a real problem, I could always drive down and have a little chat with them in person; and the generally excellent reviews they received on this site.
They apparently found someone the next day. It took a while for the driver to show up, but he eventually did, and things went well from there. I received a call from the transport dispatch to let me know that the truck had been picked up, and to expect it in 4 days.
He arrived in Washington on time (even with the horrible weather), but got pulled over by the blue meanies. He apparently didn't have some Washington Sate permit, so they made him sit for 10 hours - but their dispatcher did call me to let me know what was happening.
I eventually got the truck at midnight the next day (a previous drop off customer had delayed him 3 hours). No damage, and a super nice driver. When he tried to get it off the transporter, the battery was dead, but he even jump started it. Nice to be prepared.
Overall, Magic Carpet did get the truck here in a reasonable time, and at a reasonable price - the driver they found was excellent (although that appears to be mostly a crap shoot, and beyond their control). Would I use them again? Probably, although I would appreciate better initial contact. You would think that they would actively want your business, and wouldn't show their zits until later on, but it was the reverse this time around. But all's well that ends well.
Thanks Kathy
PS - the lowest price I was quoted (by others) was $945, but it's highly unlikely that they would be able to find anyone reputable to haul it at that price, so I went with MC as per the reasons mentioned earlier.
