Incompetent or Crooks?

You decide. Magic Carpet gave me a quote to move my car for $875, and promised that they would be able to have I picked up before I left town for good on 12/31/2008. On 12/30, I contacted them, expressing my concern that they had yet to arrange to have my car picked up. They reassured me that sometimes this happens, but they would still certainly be able to have my car loaded by tomorrow, that they were working diligently on finding a driver. On the 31st, they contacted me to let me know they were still looking for a driver, and that they were increasing my rate. This obviously did not sit well with me, and I told them that I would be following up with the BBB to inform them of their business tactics, at which point they threatened to cancel my service all together, knowing full well that I needed to leave that night and that there would be no way for me to arrange for shipping at such a late hour on a holiday. Did they intentionally wait until I had no other options, and then jack up the rate so they could make more money? Did they underbid the contract initially and had to increase it to try to get someone to take my car? I don’t know, but they were clearly either trying to rip me off, or were just inept at providing the service the promised at the price they quoted. Do not trust these people – do yourself a favor, avoid the brokers and go with an established private carrier, like Reliable Carriers (www.reliable-carriers.com). Yes, it costs more, but was totally worth it, got me my car on time, in perfect condition, for the original price they quoted, in the time they said they would.

This is absolutely an untrue situation. This client is telling the truth starting with the first sentence. We NEVER guarantee a specific pick up date unless a client has paid for guaranteed service which this client did not. If the client would have taken the time to read our terms and conditions he would have found at least 10 times where it says we do not guarantee pick up and delivery. It also says that we NORMALLY take up to ten days to find a carrier for the service. We are sorry that we weren't able to meet his specific needs and his experience with us wasn't a pleasant one. Overwhelmingly our clients do not share the same experiences by choosing our company. We are always striving to have 100% satisfaction from our clients.
