I did a fair amount of research before I decided to use Magic Carpet to transport my car from California to Massachusetts. One of the most consistent findings from my research is that every company is going to have some good reviews and some bad reviews. That is to say that some people will have a stellar experience while others hate one or more things about the service they received.
Therefore, one of the main reasons that I chose Magic Carpet was because of the ratings they had received on this site. The sheer number of people that had given the company a 5 star rating seemed to indicate to me that on the whole this company provides a superior service when compared to other companies. It turns out that this assumption is not necessarily true since the quote that Magic Carpet gives customers is reduced by $50 of the actual price you will have to pay, the $50 being a rebate that you will receive once you've left a review on this site. Naturally, this accounts for the significantly increased number of reviews posted for Magic Carpet compared to other brokerage companies. A smart marketing strategy, but potentially misleading to customers.
My main complaint with the whole process (which is why I've given Magic Carpet 3 instead of 5 stars) was a lack of communication that occurred during my desired pick-up window. For approximately four days before my flight to Massachusetts my sales representative was completely unavailable. I called her office phone, cell phone, left emails and text messages. Only once throughout that time was I responded to via text message. I was told that I'd be called or emailed later that evening with any updates. Perhaps it's my naïveté but I thought that meant I'd be informed of the situation regardless, not only if the status of my order had changed. Needless to say, I was wrong and was never emailed or called that evening or for the next 4 or so days after.
At this point, it may make sense to add the caveat that when I placed my order with Magic Carpet I was told by my sales rep that she was dealing with some personal issues at home and would occasionally be out of the office. For this reason she made her cell phone number available to me, which assuaged any anxiety I may have at first felt as a result of her admission. The problem with what transpired after was that regardless of the cell phone number, she was consistently unavailable and presumably not working to get my car picked up. Furthermore, when I called Magic Carpet to try to figure out what was going on with my order and to see if it was possible to have another sales rep work on it until mine was available, I encountered a seriously rude receptionist who treated me like an idiot for not understanding that Magic Carpet's computer systems were set up in such a way that those who work in the office are unable to access the files of those who work out of their homes (and of course my sales rep does). Thus, she was of no help to me at first until I called for a second time and she contacted another sales rep who works from his home because apparently those who work from home can see limited content from the files of the other sales reps who work from home. Unfortunately I cannot remember this man's name but he was extremely helpful and courteous to me. He recommended that I raise the price that my car was being offered for by $100 because my current number was a little low for the size of the trip.
A couple of days after that I was called by my sales rep and my car was picked up the following day. So in the end the actual process of being called by my sales rep and getting the car picked up was extremely simple and straightforward, but I was in Massachusetts already so I was lucky to have my parents at home to send the car off.
