Shipping A Car Is Like Rolling The Dice

Hello!

I consider myself to be a pretty savvy shopper, so when it came time to ship my car I knew I wanted to do a ton of research on companies. I discovered early on that it is kind of a minefield. Many reviews online were straight scary- things stolen, damaged vehicles, urine in the car, etc. I decided that it was pretty much like tossing the dice and your experience is completely up to the driver that is assigned to your car. I decided to take the gamble with Montway. I scheduled the pick up- I was moving on Saturday, so the first day the car was available was Sunday. To make matters a tad more tricky, I was leaving on a plane that Wednesday night. I made it completely clear to them that I needed a driver as soon as possible- when I originally booked by trip some two+ weeks prior. As the date got closer, I still hadn't received any calls that they had located a driver and I started to get nervous. I called a few times and re-iterated the importance. I figured if worse came to worse, I could just leave my car parked with the keys hidden on it or have a friend meet them. It wasn't until the Wednesday I was supposed to leave came and I received an email saying they still hadn't located a driver, so I called. This was the first time I talked to Brian and he was on point. He brought up so many details that none of the other reps I had spoken to at Montway - thanks Brian! He mentioned BIG things that other reps had failed to do- like there are only two locations in SF where they will even meet you to pick up a car due to heavy trucks, & tiny streets ( a not so little piece of information that would have been helpful from the get-go). He said that they found a driver but that he wouldn't be able to get to me until the followingTuesday.,. no bueno since I was supposed to leave that night. At this point, I couldn't leave my car for almost a week parked in a sketchy part of town with the keys hidden on it. It was also a very inconvenient place to get to without a car, so I couldn't leave it with a friend to drop off. I had no choice but to cancel my flight and push it out a week. I was bummed, ate a lot of money on my plane ticket, and pretty irritated it all was going to down so bad. Fast forward to Easter Sunday when I get a call at 10am that the driver is here in town to get the car and wants to meet me now? Um, no. It's Easter and I have plans- um, what happened to Tuesday? I agreed to meet him at 7pm that evening. He showed up forty five minutes late, but turned out to be really nice, so I forgave him. I felt much better about letting my car go with a complete stranger. I was quoted for the car to be in NY May 7-9th. It ended up coming April 30th- which didn't bother me at all. It was a little dusty but in the condition I left it in, so I was more than happy. Moral of the story? Throw your timeline out the window because there isn't one. You must be completely flexible. Also, send out a prayer that you are hooked up with a nice driver/transportation company like I was! Thanks Lasha & Romain for taking care of my car & to Brian for being an excellent Montway representative!!
