If you are new to transporting a car from one place to another then understand that Brokers do not (usually) operate the trailers that run the routes.

The service you receive is about how the Broker is able to work with the trucking companies and the availability of space. Every trucker wants a full load, and they bid on your "job" via a centralized online system. Brokers take a fee of about 25-30% (depending on the route and how they feel about your job). You pay this on booking to the Broker and then usually when the vehicle arrives, you pay the trucker the balance - and this is how much he actually earns for carrying your car. Shop around. There are no service fees due, no toll fees. Its an all including price. If you don't like the price, decline - they will come back with another offer

Since I was not going to be able to meet my car, I actually PRE-PAID the entire fee (if you do this use Paypal or a credit card). That meant that no cash was required at the destination and a friend was able to receive and check the car. Not many brokers offer this service.

The reliability of getting your car there on time relies partly on the integrity/honesty of the broker. Montway were good and this is reflected in the reviews here. From there is all about the reliability of the trucker or trucking company. And here every broker is in the hands of those truckers, and it seems where most of the snafu's happen. Montway called me within a day of booking and offered a delivery slot on behalf of a trucker that suited me. I accepted and thereafter I got a call from the driver from the trucking company arranging to collect the car 2 days later. Having made a time to collect, he was delayed a couple of hours but called me to keep me updated - which was a good thing.

The loading and checking process took 10-15mins but due to the size of the transporter, I had to meet him at the local main route because access to my home was via winding lanes. No problem.

So in summary, success is all about working with a good broker, who in turn uses reliable truckers. When choosing a company to work with, make sure they have a good rating here, and also an unblemished BBB rating. These are two checks that can avoid problems. Use a payment method where you have a comeback if the service is not provided - Paypal is a good one to use.

I'd use Montway again and recommend them as "safe" for friends etc

Hope this review helps
