After getting estimates from several auto transport companies I made the mistake of selecting National Auto Transport (NAT) to take my car from New York City to Santa Fe, NM. Working with salesperson, Sal Nicoletti, I arranged for my car to be picked up on December 12, 2005 or, in the event of a problem on the 12th, on December 13th, in Staten Island, NY, to be transported to Santa Fe NM. As it would be difficult for the transporting vehicle to enter Manhattan to make the pickup, I agreed to drive the car to Staten Island where the truck driver would contact me to arrange a pickup point of mutual convenience. The driver had both my home telephone number and my cell phone number so that I could be contacted at any time during the day or evening. I was informed by NAT that I would be called four hours prior to the pick-up time which might be as late as 10:00 PM. To facilitate matters I spent much of the day on December 13th on Staten Island, waiting for the driver to call. As things developed this was a total waste of time. No driver, or anyone else communicated with me to arrange a pickup point and no pickup was made. I was left with the problem at 10:00 PM on December 13th of finding a place to store my car as I was leaving New York the next morning at 6:00 AM. Of course, I was also left without the use of my car in Santa Fe. There is no excuse for dealing with a customer in this fashion!
I found that it is nearly impossible for a customer to reach NAT’s customer service line and if and when one does get through one is often treated rudely by the persons who are supposed to be providing assistance. When attempting to ascertain when I could expect to hear from the driver I was told that the car would be picked up before 10:00 PM and not to call again! Once no driver had contacted me by 6:00 PM on the 13th, I tried many times to reach NAT’s offices - to no avail!
While the salesperson, Sal Nicoletti, was polite and courteous we also had communication problems. He emailed me only the front side of the contract page. When I requested that the back side be emailed as well, both on his voice mail and in discussion with one of the customer service people, I never received the second page. Mr. Nicoletti claims that he twice sent the page to me by fax but I never gave him a fax number as I do not have a fax machine. Needless to say, I never received the missing document.
