Broker was good, Carrier was questionable

I was concerned about shipping my modified Jeep with an overall height of 6'5" because it had sustained damage during a past shipment with a different carrier. I spoke with David at Ship A Car Direct who assured me that it would be no problem for his carrier, Anthony's Auto Transport, Inc., to accommodate. When the carrier arrived, the driver claimed that he hadn't been informed that my Jeep wasn't stock and that he wasn't going to be able to fit it on his trailer. I tried calling David to sort things out. He didn't answer so I left a message. It was 8am on a Saturday. The driver finally agreed to take my Jeep for an additional $200 over my quote, claiming that he would lose money if he didn't charge me more because, due to the height of my vehicle, he would have to orient his trailer differently and leave a car off the load. Basically the driver was telling me that my Jeep was taking up two spaces on his trailer instead of just one. Because I was on a tight schedule, I couldn't get ahold of David and I wasn't sure that the same thing wouldn't happen again with a different carrier if I rescheduled, I hastily agreed. David returned my call a couple of hours after the truck had left with my Jeep. By then I was annoyed and didn't feel like finding out that I had been fleeced so I didn't bother with the details. I just told David that it was on the truck and on its way.

I would have preferred better communication between all parties, especially when being asked for more money but even after paying the additional $200 I believe I paid a fair price for the move. I'm still not sure if I was treated fairly or taken advantage of by Anthony's Auto Transport, Inc. but my Jeep arrived safely and in good condition so I filed this experience under "all is well that ends well".
