I contracted with Ship a Car Direct (SaCD) to hire a carrier to transport my new car from Lansing, MI to San Francisco, CA. The sign-up process was straight forward and simple with a reasonable quote. My sales account manager, Scott, explained the transportation process clearly and made himself available throughout the project.
The carrier, Safe Auto Transport, delivered my car in an open truck. The truck, and all the cars on her, were a filthy upon arrival having survived numerous bomb cyclones as she drove West, but they were also damage free and ready to drive. The driver, Alex, was professional, polite and efficient in the hand-off of the car to me.
Two glitches -
1) the first carrier I was assigned, Buya Transportation, has terrible recent online reviews, so I declined to use them. Scott said that Buya had lost SaCD contracts due to their poor reviews, so my request was not surprising. The fact that multiple SaCD customers had refused Buya's services for the same reason as I, yet SaCD continued to accept their bids and give them business, gave me pause, so I was diligent in vetting the next carrier, Safe Auto Transport.
2) The Lansing, MI car dealership sent the car title and legal paperwork to the wrong address, and could not release the car on the original date. We, therefore, had to reschedule its pick-up. Scott stepped-up fast and made the pick-up date change, but SaCD’s 3rd party customer service vendor in India didn’t read/see the new date, and mismanaged the communications with Safe Auto Transport. Their driver arrived unannounced, in the dark, 20 mins before the dealership was closing for Thanksgiving and two days ahead of schedule. Fortunately, the dealership released the car and a week later she was sitting in my garage.
Overall, I recommend Ship a Car Direct. If possible, ask to work with Scott. He’s a straight shooter.
