Those new to shipping cars across country for fairly low cost should realize that you typically deal with a small operation (1-2 people in a "front office") who then arrange with independent shippers/drivers to have the car moved. Both the front office and the actual shipper take their cut of the total cost. There's not necessarily anything wrong with this arrangement, just realize that in most cases you aren't dealing with a shipper that actually owns their own shipping trucks.

That being said, the most important aspect of the shipping is getting good communication with the people who are arranging the shipping. I can confidently say that Aaron at Summit Auto Transport was a great person to deal with. He was prompt to provide a quote, a contract, and was easy to get hold of at almost any time to answer questions. I had a BMW shipped from Colorado to Virginia in December of 2012 on an open carrier over the Christmas holiday, and Aaron worked to arrange the shipping and delivery around my holiday schedule. The transport time across country was not quite as fast as the actual truck driver quoted my sister at pickup, but this was driven primarily by some weather along the way - and wasn't an issue since I hadn't paid any premium for delivery on a particular day. The car was delivered without damage, so I cannot comment on any claims process. Aaron at Summit Auto Transport always answered my calls for status or to coordinate delivery with a great attitude, and provided his cell phone so that I could get hold of him at almost any time of day. I was apparent that Aaron places a focus on customer service and strives to provide the best shipping experience possible. I'd highly recommend using Aaron and Summit Auto Transport to anyone looking to ship an automobile.
