I wanted to transport my vehicle for school from Sugar Land, TX to Washington, DC. I do admit that was impressed with the immediate response that I received from Richard at Transport Services. But before I made a decision, I shopped around to get a good deal. I eventually picked transport services for their persistence and ability to negotiate a reasonable price. My vehicle was scheduled for pick up on Monday, August 18, 2008, but the driver never called or showed up. His company then called on Tuesday, August 19, 2008 and said that my car would not fit on his carrier and that another driver, Craig, would come pick it up. I contacted Craig and it turns out that his car is in the shop, and he wouldn't be able to come pick up my vehicle on the 19th as re-scheduled, and would not come until the 20th. He did not show up to pick up my vehicle until the 21st of August, that Thursday. He arrived to drop off my car on August 25, the following Monday, which was good timing, but he never made it to Washington, DC. The driver claimed that he could not make it to my house (mind you, my contract was for door-to-door service) because the streets were too narrow. He called me about 5 other times when he was on the street after contacting his company (which is not Transport Services but instead Harwell Transport) to see if there was another route he could take. I didn't understand his confusion as trucks have driven up and down my street before. After contacting Richard about the issue, they told me that I would have to meet the driver somewhere to pick up my car. The driver was getting VERY frustrated (as I couldn't understand since I am the one without a vehicle at this point) and told me that he was just going to go on on his route to New Jersey and then New York and deliver those vehicles and then come back! I said NO! I need my car. So I agreed to meet him on the side of some random road in Virginia to get my car. When I got there, I deducted the fair of my cab from the total bill, (as the cab ride was a new expense that I did not plan for) and the driver became extremely upset. I told him to call his supervisor because I am not paying for the cab. The supervisor agreed with ME and I paid the balance minus the cab fee (1150 - 20 cab fee = 1130). I choose this company because of its "five star" status, but I was not impressed at all. First of all, they contract with other transport companies, so had I contacted Harwell personally and made a contract I would have cut out the middle man that is Transport Services. I suggest looking deeper into the transport company you decide to pick, and searching the feedback of their drivers, as mine was a hard one to get along with. He should have researched the regulations of DC before agreeing to make this transport, and should not have waited until he was outside of the city boundaries to tell me that he would not be able to bring me my car! Ridiculous and Unprofessional! I'm driving my car back home to Texas when school ends.
