Horses delivered a day late, no contact from hauler when they would arrive

We used this company the previous year and had a positive experience. Unfortunately, this year was incredible poor. The horses were scheduled for pick up at 5:30am on Monday AM. The hauler arrived early and left early, informing my trainer they had another pick-up on the way and needed to leave early. They also stated that meant they would arrive late at night, near midnight (original expected arrival time was approx 8pm, but contracted to be same day delivery).
We stayed up all night, waiting for our horses to arrive so we could unload them and settle them in. The haulers would not report where they were located, and gave numerous false arrival times. At one point, the hauler stated, "we've had horses on here for 5 days and they were fine." The horses were contracted to be picked up and delivered the same day. The were to be on the trailer approx 13 hours.
The hauler called a number of times to get directions (the location of the delivery site was not complicated or hard to reach). The horses finally arrived at 9am the following day, a full 27 hours after their pick-up. A standard 13-15 haul became a 27 hour nightmare for all owners, our trainer, and our horses. One horse needed hundreds of dollars of vet work after the haul, as he was an older horse who required AC (which they said would be used, and was not). He has rub marks where the side rails rubbed him raw. Fortunately, my horse came off slightly dehydrated but OK. I'm grateful I gave him Ulcerguard and a tube of electrolytes before the journey.
The company would not return our phone calls to explain what happened. After their lack of communication, we all canceled our payments, which they are now refuting. I seriously hate complaining about service, withdrawing payments, but with this situation it's clear the service we contracted for was not delivered, and their lack of communication or receptiveness to the situation has been extremely disappointing.
