I've never shipped a car before but saw good reviews for this company so I called and talked to Emma. She said I could have 100 pounds of soft items in my truck and it would be picked up during a three day window for $1,295. Excellent.

I gave them the deposit and then the facts changed. Now my car was allowed to have 75 pounds of soft items and the pick up window was one week. Annoying, but not terrible.

I got a call on the last day of the week, what I assumed was the last day for them to remain in contract and ship my car, and they said they have a driver who will do it for $300 more. Why should I have to pay more than their quote that is on the contract? Well, I don't have to pay more, but there is no consequence to them if they don't get my car shipped during that week. In fact, there is no guarantee they'll ship my car during the next MONTH! At this point, my car is in Ohio and I'm in Washington state.

What Emma failed to tell me is, they will look for a driver who will transport my car, but if they don't find one, they'll just look the next day. This could go on forever. And the price could change depending on which driver offers to deliver it. What good is a quote with a date range and a price when neither have to be stuck to by United Freight of America?

If you are moving from a big town to another big town, Emma tells me, the chances of getting your car there during the time frame and for the quoted price are better. She neglected to mention any of this when she gave me the initial quote.

Definitely ask lots of questions and avoid this company!
