First and Foremost, the estimated total doubled once they had my deposit. Our initially estimate was for $4,500 with a manger discount of $850, which surpassed the total fuel service charge. Once we submitted our deposit, I received another call stating that the quote did not include a full pack or any boxes as I previously requested with my initial quote. I then received a verbal quote of around $6,800 for all items to be moved, a full pack and an updated cubic footage (of which they charge $4.50 per CF). I then stated that I had another quote from a different moving company that was below their estimate and I wanted my money back because of the updated quote. This was on a Friday and James stated that he would give me a call first thing Saturday to go over a new price that would be able to match the competition. He called at 3:00 pm the next day, not first thing in the morning as previous stated. I missed the call but was able to call him back thirty minutes after, and the office was no longer open for the day. I never heard from James again. Then a few days later, Wayne calls and states that the truck will be there in the next few days. At this point I was unsure what the agreement was between United Movers Group and me. I asked if the movers were anticipating performing a full move, as James and I discussed, or if they were planning on moving the items on the original quote only. They stated that they had us down for a full move. This means that James had a different quote inputted into the system, or the original quote included packing. Either way the movers showed up around the time that was quoted to us by Wayne. However, I received a phone call stating that the estimate was grossly incorrect and the new current total was over $9,100. I told them that this was unacceptable and I wanted my deposit returned as I had not signed anything prior that stated that the deposit was nonrefundable. Wayne and I had an in-depth discussion that lasted 45 minutes going around in circles. I stated that I wanted my deposit back as I had other quotes that were well below the new quote of $9,100. He stated again and again that the other mover’s quotes were not valid as they would raise the price once they started moving. Two of the other quotes I received came out to my house and provided an estimate and were well under $9,000. Wayne also stated that the deposit was non-refundable multiple times and multiple times. I stated that is unfair as the quote doubled from the original quote. We agreed on a $400 discount. After this I was informed that the movers did not anticipate a full pack and were already behind schedule. They proceeded to pack all of the items in the house. Once they were complete, they placed all of the items in the moving van and drove off. They did not clean up after themselves and they missed an entire bathroom and some drawers in the kitchen. I had to pay for someone to come in after these movers and clean up the house which was over $100. Then I had the same people dispose of my items which was another $50. So the entire move has cost me right around $9,000 on a budget estimate of $4,500. That is a 100% price hike of which United Movers Group held my $1,500 deposit hostage if I didn’t sign up for the price hike. Their estimating software or estimators are a joke if they are off by a factor of 2. As I stated before, I received multiple quotes and compared them to each other. I was under the impression that The United Movers Group knew what they were doing and this was an incorrect assumption. Please check the BBB’s website as they currently have an F rating. issue came on the day my items were picked up. The form of payment was never discussed and they needed 50% of the money on site that day in cash or certified check form. This issue was resolved quickly as Wayne stated that we could use the same payment procedure as we used for paying for the deposit, but they will require cash or a certified check upon receiving of the items. This was the most painless part of this process as Wayne finally stepped up for the customer. However, once the items were taken away, I received another call asking when I would like to receive my items. Now I have banked with a company for a long time and they did not have any branches on the East Coast. I didn’t want to go through the hassle of closing my bank accounts as I was moving, so I decided to keep them open as they are able to deposit checks via mail or application. I stated that I could receive them anytime as I looked up the total time it takes on United Mover’s website and it stated up to two weeks. This was more than enough time for me to deposit a check and receive a certified check for the total amount. United Movers had to check with the availability of the drivers to see when I could receive my items. I received a call back about two hours later stating that my items would arrive on Sunday or Monday. It was Saturday when I received this call. No time for me to send away my deposit and receive a certified check, so I had to wire the money to myself via western union. This costs an additional $80. This was after I called back to United Moving Group and asked for them to reschedule the delivery and explained the banking details. In lieu of United Movers Group being sympathetic to my situation, they threatened me with a $400 to $700 redelivery fee. This was after I was unable to verify my delivery date with anyone from their company.
Finally it is the day of my delivery and I have the proper amount of cash in hand and no one knows where the driver or my stuff is as I was scheduled to receive a call Sunday. It is now Monday, and with the extra costs that I have been threatened with and have occurred, I can’t wait to see what kind of fresh hell I am in for when my items actually arrives. I moved with United Van Lines (https://www.unitedvanlines.com/ ) on my first move and these jokers on my second move. United Van Lines came in and packed up all my items, they didn’t exceed the quote that I received after a professional estimator came in and reviews what items we had. United Movers Group kept stating over and over again that the other movers will always exceed their quotes. This is simply not true. Needless to say I have never been so embarrassed by a decision in my life than trusting United Movers Group with my move. Please take these words into concretization when selecting a mover. You will regret selecting United Movers Group as it would have been cheaper and much less stressful selecting any other mover in the industry. I have a few more moves coming up in my lifetime and I will never ever utilize United Movers Group again.
