I am a superintendent for a large contractor in the natural gas industry. My company bids against other companies for jobs all over the US. When we bid a job we either have to do that job under what we bid to get it or we lose money. We don't get to go to the representative of the company we are doing the work for and ask for more money because we are not able to do the job under the amount of money we bid it to do. We either have to find a way to do the job or lose money. Universal Transport took my money and we had a contract to move my vehicle within 10 days of the first available pick up date which was August 12, 2013. A trucking company was ready to move the vehicle but it was going to cost the broker $200 more to move it than the contract we entered into covered. I told them that wasn't my problem. They entered into a contract whereby I paid them $225 deposit and would be required to pay the hauler $200 cash. The trucking company was asking for $200 more than what I had agreed to when I entered the contract with Universal Transport. Universal Transport asked me if I wanted to pay the extra $200. I told them that I absolutely would not pay more than what our contract required. They passed on the transport company and that is their right. However, by passing on that transport company, they were not able to deliver my vehicle within 10 days as promised. I lost out on the sale of the vehicle and am now in the process of trying to get my money back from Universal Transport. This has soured my opinion of using transporters to haul a vehicle for me. In my opinion, Universal Transport lied to me and never even tried to transport my vehicle. I hope that if I ever have to do this in the future that I am able to find a company that will honor their contract. As for now, I will be moving vehicles as I always have: with my own trailer. At least I will know that the job will get done.
