Mr. Eggert placed his order with us on August 2nd, with a first available pick up date of August 12th. Our average time frame for pick up is 3-10 business days from the date the vehicle is available, in this case the 12th. The customer wanted delivery between the 17th and 20th, or 27th and 31st ONLY according to his order form. Because it can be difficult to find a driver that can deliver in a short window, the customer was informed that we cannot guarantee that his vehicle would arrive in this time frame. It is also very important to note that it can be difficult to find any driver headed to Colorado on a regular basis, as there are not that many vehicles to pick up once they get to Denver for a return trip.
Our notes on Mr. Eggert’s account do not state that he had cleared his schedule after the 17th. Either myself or our owner will check emails MANY, MANY TIMES during business hours and sometimes afterwards. Considering it had been several business days, and there were no drivers interested in transporting the Studebaker, we added bonuses on our behalf to try and help Mr. Eggert receive his vehicle in a timely manner. The bonuses we added put his vehicle at the top of the list of all vehicles currently waiting to transport from OH – CO by approximately $300. Usually, this kind of bonus coupled with the fact that Mr. Eggert was quoted according to mileage and vehicle type will bring a driver out of their way to pick up a car. Therefore, we absolutely did not give Mr. Eggert an unrealistic price – as this is not the first time we’ve shipped a Studebaker. The average COD price on this route for a newer-model sedan is $500-$600 (from Central Dispatch - the load board drivers use to locate vehicles).
His quote along with our bonus made his carrier pay almost double all the other vehicles listed in the last 30 days. With the bonus of the entire deposit (we were not making a dime), the vehicle would have paid all $895 to a driver. The price that moved the Studebaker in the end from Streamline paid less to a driver tthan our price, as we only charge $100 deposit out of the $895 (Streamline charges $175 deposit out of the $1000 total price reported on the review by the customer). Therefore, it is HIGHLY likely that Mr. Eggert's vehicle would have moved with us just the same after his order was cancelled. Both Streamline and Worry Free subscribe to Central Dispatch to help find carriers.
Any customer that wants to add a bonus above and beyond their quoted price is welcome to do so, but not outright encouraged. We ALWAYS do our best to transport our customer’s vehicles for their current quote price. However (for lack of better terminology), money talks to a carrier sometimes if a car has been waiting for about two weeks. This is exactly why we sometime choose to help out from our end further by adding bonuses. Some customers will choose to match our bonus, some will not. Either way, it is simply personal choice. Mr. Eggert chose not to add a bonus.
