Terrible Response Time and Dishonest Carrier Used

I shipped my 2007 Honda Accord from Washington state to Minnesota in June of 2014. It was my first time shipping a car and I did lot of research on BBB and Transport Reviews, finding that AmeriFreight had by far the best reviews of any shipping company.

Pros: I was quoted $250 for the deposit to AmeriFreight and a remaining $545 to the carrier to ship my car open. The price was met and was competitive with a few other quotes I received. My original inquiry was April 25th. I confirmed my order on May 2nd, and a carrier was found on May 12th for June 23rd pick-up.

Cons:
1) Communication - My contact person was Dustin Himes at AmeriFreight. After the initial quote sent by email in April 2014, I had to leave 2 messages by phone before hearing back so I could go forward with the shipment. When I was unable to get ahold of the carrier company, I called then emailed Dustin in May and June 2014. Not hearing back, I finally called again and spoke to Jordan who was able to give me more details of the shipment and confirm the dates. In addition, I emailed Dustin a new pick-up address as I moved, and although he confirmed receiving and passing it along, the carrier company did not have the address. I had to make several attempts each time to get ahold of Dustin, which did not engender my trust in AmeriFreight.

2) The carrier company used by AmeriFreight was incredibly dishonest. My car was shipped by In Transit, LLC based in Everett, Washington. I called to ask their insurance policy (which they refused to disclose) and that same day was told my car was being picked up in the next 1-2 hours. The driver checked off my vehicle was too dirty for inspection and had damage all around, too much to list, neither of which are accurate. He stated these were the norm to check off. He refused to date his signature. I was told I would be given 24 hours notice of the delivery and he was not sure when the car would be delivered in Minnesota, as he had to load up his truck first. He said he could not guarantee delivery by the original date I was told. The car actually arrived earlier, but was dropped off at 10:30 pm in another parking lot in Minnesota with about 9 hours notice, from a much more reasonable driver. While I realize these concerns are against the carrier company, I believe it is the duty of AmeriFreight to contract with carrier companies with a degree of integrity, honesty, and trustworthiness.

We apologize to our customer for not being happy with our service. We admit that we should have done better in communicating and we will ensure that her grievances will be attended to with those responsible. We always try to select only the top 5% from over 3000 carriers. Unfortunately carriers are not the best in customer service and they tend to be less cooperative. That is why brokers are important when shipping your vehicle. We will follow up with the carrier regarding this customer's complaints and if we do not get confirmation from them to treat our customers better we will consider placing them on a do not use list. Because of our reputation, most carriers will go out of their way to ensure that this does not happen. We appreciate this honest review.
