Decided to book Amerifreight for our move from San Diego to Boston. They had great BBB reviews and transport reviews, and it looks like often go from CA to MA, so I thought they would be fairly competent. I got a quote from them that was originally in the lower end of the price range I was expecting, but after their bidding process, ended up $250 higher than I was originally quoted. Decided to go with them anyways, because the person we were talking with was the only one trying to keep in contact with me.
So we got set up with the actual driver (I think Amerifreight is just the middleman), but had the wrong contact info for them. We tried calling them like 5 times, no luck. Then we tried calling our Amerifreight contact (Harry). After a few days, we still couldn't get in contact with our driver, and called Harry back. He proceded to yell at my husband, saying there wasn't anything he could do about the driver not calling us (our car was scheduled to be picked up in the next 3 days btw). Left a bad taste in our mouth. Then the driver did actually call us and get in contact- it was the wrong phone number we were given by Amerifreight all along! What good is a middleman if you can't connect the two parties?
Anyways, our car did get picked up on time, and the drivers were generally courteous. however, when the car was scheduled to be dropped off, the driver called hoping he could drop it off away from our apartment (makes sense- our street is a bit narrow). We were fine with a 15 minute walk, but when he asked to drop it off about 45 minute subway trip away, we were a bit annoyed. He did end up coming to that 15 minute walk location, but it was a bit annoying that he originally was trying to drop the car so far away from us.
Anyways, car got to us perfectly ok, so overall a success. But I'll probably pick a different company next time, that doesn't get "bids" after the original quote, that hopefully doesn't yell at us for trying to get in contact with the driver, and hopefully that doesn't ask us to compromise significantly on drop off location.
