At first I was very hopeful that my first experience with shipping a car would be a good one, it started out that way. I went through KAT (the broker who listed the car on the national boards) and made sure they understood that the car had to be delivered after 1600 since it was going to an active duty air force serviceman. Within a couple of days I was contacted by a lady (sorry didn't get name) from Complete Auto saying they would be there to pick up the car the next day. I told her that the first day available was not for 2 more days and I didn't know why it was showing as tomorrow. Anyway, she said they be there on Monday between 0800 -1000 and sure enough at 0803 I got a call to find out exactly where I was located. Within a few minutes a very nice man in a very new Peterbuilt single car carrier shows up to take the car to the lot where they load up the car transports (didn't meet my definition of single transport but I was willing to let that go). Two days later I had not heard a word so I called Ed (the guy "in charge") and asked about the delivery date. He asked when the car was picked up so I told him Monday and he said "well then it should be there Thursday or Friday". So there's problem number one - what the heck is with "should be" in today's age of GPS tracking of interstate commerce vehicles. No offer to check and see or anything. Then I mentioned that it had to be delivered after 1600 and he got real nasty. He told me that if no one was available to get it when the truck arrived that they'd just bring it back to Texas. I told him that was the agreement I had with the broker and he said 'then you need to take it up with your broker not me cause I don't have anything about that'. I explained that it was going to a military base and that they can't just get off duty whenever they feel like it the I asked him why he was being so difficult to deal with. He just stated that he wasn't and it sounds like I need to talk to the broker. Great - what a jerk, wonderful the way he supports our men and women in uniform huh?
Anyway, so I was left scrambling trying to figure out what to do. My sister suggested I contact a sister congregation of our church and see if they could sign for the car. By now it was after 1800 so I said I'd do that early the next day. But about 1900 I get a call from my daughter saying the trucking company had just called her and would be there in a couple of hours and they needed the balance ($500) in cash. If only that had been COMMUNICATED it wouldn't have been a problem. So now her she is having to get a cab to run to an ATM and then go meet the truck...what a DISASTER. All of this could have been easily avoided if good ol' Ed would just just that simple little device called a TELEPHONE.
Bottom line, if you don't mind your car going into a black hole and showing up God knows when then by all means use them; otherwise, run like heck if you see their name associated with shipping your car.
