Average performance, higher price

Metti Int'l appears to be a family run business by Michael and his wife, Hannah. Overall performance was good, but with a lot of stress for us and not the best communication. The price was slightly on the higher side, but something I was comfortable with. Michael was good enough to help find ways to lower prices, but the one thing that Michael doesn't make clear that they are not a shipper of automobiles (i.e., they don't own trucks or employ drivers who actually ship cars). They are a broker (middle man), and that almost always results in higher prices to the end customer (slightly higher price is not the end of the world). But giving the impression during the sales period that they are shippers is unethical and deceptive. Michael should have been forthcoming about Metti's role in the shipping business.

Secondly, I was promised a stress free service and that they only employ high quality drivers. Well, the truck which was supposed to pick up our car broke down and failed to communicate to Metti or me that they weren't showing up the day Metti told me they would. After much back and forth with Hannah (Michael's wife), she told me that the drivers don't communicate well and she apologized for that. How, after being in business for 5+ years and claiming to be a very strong company and very service oriented, does a company work with shippers who can't even communicate to them (Metti), let alone the customer? On the positive side, after putting a lot of pressure on Hannah, she finally figured a way out to get my car picked up the following day.

So heads up to folks who need to ship their cars - always inquire (in writing) if the company you're dealing with is a shipper or broker, whether they own their own trucks and employees, who (they or the shipper they contract with) carries insurance for your vehicle during transit. Don't be shy to ask these questions and ask for answers in writing (businesses say a lot of things verbally that they deny when a problem arises), and if a service provider isn't forthcoming or is evasive in its response, then you're in for trouble and the low price you pay for that service will not be low by the time the service provider is done with you (I'm jaded on this aspect). To Metti's credit however, they were true to their word on price - it didn't change a penny from the amount we agreed to.

Moral of the story for Metti should be that 1) be forthcoming and honest with your customers - don't give them impressions or withhold information, but be honest about who you are and how you operate. Many prospective clients will pay a higher price for the convenience of having a middle man coordinate the logistics (I know I would have done that as opposed to taking a chance on a shipper that is not well reputed but offers a lower price), and 2) make sure you choose good vendors and employees - those who can communicate well with customers and keep you (Metti) well informed about the situation at hand. Clients are very reasonable people if you don't try to fool them and are honest with them. All said and done, thank you for getting my car to its end destination in one piece - I wish the stress level was lower and I hadn't wasted precious family time dealing with the situation.

Dear Karun, Thank you for taking your time to write a review. We will do all we can to implement your important suggestions. Our apologies that it was not made clear enough that we are not brokers, this has not been an issue for us in the past. The first line of our website clearly states " Metti International is a bonded freight broker specializing in auto transportation, car shipping and vehicle transportation." The order confirmation we sent also states we are brokers, which gave you the opportunity not to proceed with us. We typically emphasis that we do not have trucks but that we contract with carriers and verify with their insurance company that they have the proper coverage and that the carrier has a 95% rating or higher when it comes to on time delivery and no damage claims. On occasion, trucks do breakdown and the driver fails to communicate his situation, perhaps they attempt to get it repaired so they can continue on with their way. In your particular transport, the carrier was replaced and your vehicle was picked up the next day. We apologize for this inconvenience. We have a standing company policy of telling our clients that they shouldn't wait for the driver, just be within a reasonable proximity to meet the driver when he does arrive. Our goal is to make car shipping a simple, easy and reliable service. Again, thank you for your feed back. Michael Metti International 866-620-620
