Additional Mileage on car at delivery

I booked the delivery of a 2005 Honda CRV with Speciality Mobile Systems after reading the reviews on this website. SMS in turn contracted with Nichols Transporting to arrange for shipment of the vehicle from Virginia to Texas.

The car arrived 4 days late and at 2am in the morning. I can accept the fact that the delivery was late. The driver was apparently injured in the course of loading and unloading another vehicle and a friend of his had to take him to the hospital and help him deliver the remaining cars. These things happen.

What was unacceptable was finding out that an additional 93 miles was put on the car ~ that was not there when the car was loaded in Virginia. (We have copies of the inspection report at both pick up and delivery with the odometer reading noted). I notified SMS of this discrepancy and they contacted Nichols Transporting. After a couple of days where I did not hear from anyone, I called SMS -- they said they contacted Nichols who said they would call me directly. SMS called Nichols again with no response. It has now been a week and Nichols is not answering calls from SMS or myself.

What Nichols Transporting has done is dishonest and their failure to take responsibility by even returning calls is not what I would expect of anyone doing business. I feel fortunate that there was no damage to the car but I would not recommend using them again.

As for SMS, I appreciate their follow up and they did indicate that they will not use Nichols Transporting again in the future and SMS credited me $25. That said, the $995 that SMS quote me to transport the car was $200 more than the next price bid -- for the extra $200 I spent, I guess I would have not expected to have this problem.
