TLDR: my experience with Ship a Car Direct was fine, the pick up was a huge hassle for me, I was not pleased with the carrier, I spent more than I'd planned, but everything worked out in the end.

My experience with Stefan at Ship a Car Direct was good. He checked in with me a few times and was pretty responsive to emails. He gave me a good quote ($1050), but when it came time to book a carrier, that cost went up. The actual rate wasn't unreasonable so it was fine with me ($1125). I understand that it's sometimes not possible to nail down exact dates well in advance so I tried to be flexible with my timeline.

The issues I had were mainly with the carrier, TK Transportation, Inc. I wasn't given an estimated pick up time even though I was told I'd get an estimated time the morning of. After waiting for a phone call all morning I called them and I asked for them to give me a range. When the driver called, he told me he could not come to my building because he claimed he was not allowed to drive his truck near my neighborhood. This wasn't true though because I, and others I know, have had cars picked up an delivered within a few blocks of my building. Plus, 18-wheelers make deliveries to nearby stores all the time, and I live on a major street. In any case, I tried to be accommodating by suggesting a couple of different locations closer to the freeway. The driver shot down those suggestions and suggested a location of his own which was a 30min drive from my building. This new location was nowhere near public transportation and my return trip was a $30 Uber ride. After a lot of back and forth, I finally gave in because I just wanted to get things over with. I ended up having to go out of my way to meet the driver, and spend money to get back home. The delivery part of the transaction worked out just fine though because although I was unavailable on the delivery date (given a 24hr notice), I was able to arrange for a friend to meet the driver and pay in cash.
