I had to ship the car, Toyota Corolla from Philadelphia, PA area to CA.
In the middle of August, whit plenty time ahead (need car on September 17), I ended up with 5 quotes, checked the reviews and record and select the Monster Transporter (broker). Monster Transporter was $ 50 more expensive than lowest bid.
With information, what I had from broker (10-14 days to schedule to pick up the car and
10-14 days car in transit) on August 20 I placed the order. Transferred deposit $150.00 to broker’s account. Broker had to find carrier, pickup the car on September 3, or close to this date and deliver on September 17. Everything was looking smooth and nice.
Couple days before planned pick up date, I called dispatcher try to find the status.
Dispatcher told me that company didn’t find yet carrier, but everything is under control and any moment they are waiting for call from transporter.
On September, 3 car was not picked up.
I had to call numerous times, listen to the promises and waiting for the carrier.
I was stack with the car during weekends, because dispatcher told that carrier wills pickup the car Saturday or Sunday.
On September, 8 car was still seating on the driveway.
Same day I had phone conversation with Owner of Monster Transporter.
And this is interesting part of our conversation: “If you (it means Me) pay extra $100 to carrier, probably I (owner-broker) can push the day of pick-up car”. And this after 20 days of placing of the order and sign the agreement. This was EXTORTION or SCAM.
But I need this car to move to CA and decided to go with this “option”.
Extra $100 did not help.
September 11,2003-car still was not pick up.
Today, I found the carrier and will drop the car at his terminal, pay extra $200 to expedite delivery and car will be delivered on September 20. We’ll rent the car for couple days, waiting for car delivery.
Total we lost $500 on this “deal” ($150 deposit+$ 200 for expedite delivery+$50 to deliver the car from terminal to door in California + rent the car at least for 3 days)
In the future I’ll never use broker, specially “Monster….
Conclusion: NOT RECOMMENDED.
